Local FirstLine Schools Educator Named Teacher of the Year Finalist!
June 9, 2017
Each year, the Louisiana Department of Education celebrates educators through the Teacher and Principal of the Year programs. These teachers and principals exemplify commitment to student success and have made substantial contributions to education in Louisiana. The Department chooses teachers who are especially successful with students, and they choose principals who demonstrate exceptional efforts to support teachers. In June, the Department recognized 18 finalists from a number of school districts throughout the state. One local teacher, Lorraine Fedison-Winder, was chosen as a finalist. Ms. Fedison-Winder teaches at FirstLine Schools, and we’d like to congratulate her on this honor!
Throughout the month of June, community and education leaders will conduct in-person interviews and eventually select the winners. The Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Symposium will take place on Friday, July 28, 2017, at the Crowne Plaza Executive Center in Baton Rouge. Here, the honorees as well as state-level winners will be recognized. This event is co-sponsored by Dream Teachers, a non-profit organization that recognizes outstanding educators in Louisiana. We’d like to congratulate all of these incredible educators and commend them for the work they do for our students.
