Citywide Survey – Spring 2017

Listening to the Community’s Voice

OPSB is committed to creating a public school system that gives families, educators, and community members a voice in the decisions that shape the district’s long-term strategic plan. The spring 2017 citywide survey provided community members with an opportunity to share their priorities for public education and satisfaction with our school system. The survey closed on May 5 and was open to every New Orleans resident ages 18 and older. All responses were anonymous. In total, 3,800 residents completed the survey either online or through paper surveys.

Initial results highlight three broad challenges for OPSB:

  1. The availability of high quality school options.
  2. The need to define appropriate expectations for schools.
  3. Greater access to diverse schools.

OPSB will further explore these and other survey findings in upcoming engagement sessions. In June, School Leaders and Board Chairs will participate in survey workshops and an independent research organization will conduct a series of focus groups for community members. Early this fall,, OPSB will hold a series of town halls to share additional findings from these meetings.
