First 180 Days
October 6, 2015
Dear Orleans Parish Public Schools families and friends,
It is my privilege to lead public education as the Superintendent of the Orleans Parish School Board. Over the course of my nearly 20 years in public education, I have recognized the need to provide youth in our community with equal opportunities and resources needed to succeed.
Since assuming the position of Superintendent, I have established a 180-day plan highlighting organizational goals addressing governance, organization structure, operations and finance, school achievement and community and public relations. All goals seek to fulfill the Orleans Parish Public Schools mission to provide every child in every school with the opportunity to achieve academic excellence and to become productive citizens in the future.
Over the past six months, I worked with board members to develop an effective governance structure that focuses on maintaining academic success for all students. We also successfully passed policy HA, establishing equal and consistent rules for governing charter school operations.
Additionally, OPSB worked to align its efforts in providing quality education for all students to ultimately graduate prepared for college and career ready, including regular meetings with OPSB officers, as well as principals and school leaders of both district and charter schools.
To measure the district’s effective use of financial resources, OPSB commissioned an external audit by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor (LLA). We will implement the LLA recommendations prioritized by OPSB in the first quarter of fiscal year 2016.
While we have had many accomplishments, we still have work to do as a community to ensure a quality education for every child.
It begins with every child. Every school. Every day.
