Donate School Supplies for Hurricane Harvey Relief

September 7, 2017

NEW ORLEANS – (Sept. 7, 2017) – The Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) announced a school supply drive benefiting students affected by Hurricane Harvey today. The OPSB is asking community members and local organizations to provide backpacks loaded with school supplies to enable students to return to school as quickly and as comfortably as possible.  Donations should be delivered to the OPSB Central Office at 3520 General DeGaulle Drive, 1st floor, Suite 1045 by Friday, September 22. Items can be dropped during normal business hours. For more information call (504) 304-3520.

“Although New Orleans was spared by Hurricane Harvey, our brothers and sisters in Texas and west Louisiana were hit hard,” said OPSB President John Brown, Sr. “Now, in their time of need, we should all remember how Texas, Houston and so many others helped New Orleans following the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina and return the love and compassion they so readily showed to our city.”

Schools and citizens across the city are encouraged to participate in the drive and involve students in the relief effort.

“Houston answered the call when we were in need and we will forever be grateful,” said OPSB Vice President Leslie Ellison. “Now is the time to act and ensure these children can return to a sense of normalcy as quickly as possible. We hope everyone will donate what they can. Every little bit helps.”
