OPSB’s Child Search Office Offers Free Evaluations for 3-5 Year Olds

January 12, 2018

The Orleans Parish School Board’s Child Search Office is available to provide assistance to children, between 3-5 years of age, exhibiting characteristics of a learning problem, disability, and/or exceptional skills beyond their age. Evaluation and special education services available to families through the Child Search Office are free, and scheduling will occur by calling the Child Search Office at 504-304-4988 or by completing the Online Appointment Request Form at https://opsb.us/departments/exceptional-childrens-services/child-search/.

With parent permission, services could include:

  • Free screening to determine if a child should be evaluated or linked with other community agencies.
  • If screening indicates, an evaluation is conducted to determine the type of services a child may need.
  • If through the evaluation, it is determined that a child is in need of services, they may include free special education instruction, speech services, occupational therapy services, physical therapy services, and/or social work services.
  • If a child has a current evaluation (within one year of today’s date) from a private vendor, an administrative review is required to determine compliance with state criteria. Please bring a copy of the completed evaluation form (download form here) and the Request for Administrative Review Form to the attention of the SESS Coordinator, at 3520 General DeGaulle Drive, Suite 2060, New Orleans, LA 70114, or email a copy to ecs@opsb.us.
