Orleans Parish School Board Meeting Recap – January, 2018

At the January Board Business Meeting of the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) there were a number of important actions taken.

Re-election of Board President and Vice President

The board unanimously voted to re-elect John A. Brown, Sr. and Leslie Ellison as board President and Vice President, respectively. This is the second term for both Brown and Ellison.

Superintendent Announces Transformation Siting

Dr. Lewis announced that after a transparent, public process, InspireNOLA will be the new operator at the Eisenhower building and FirstLine will take over Live Oak Elementary School.

Superintendent’s Recommendations on Fall Charter Applications

With the close of the January board meeting, the Fall Charter Application decisions put forth in December by Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. took effect. Five of the eight applications submitted were approved to move forward.  Those approved applications include:

FirstLine Schools Approved for 2 schools:

Live Oak Elementary School (replacing ReNew Cultural Arts Academy)

Opening of a second school is subject to Superintendent’s approval.

Legacy of Excellence Benjamin Franklin Elementary Mathematics and Science School Type 3  (conversion) PK3 – 8th
Center for Resilience The Querencia School Type 1 (new start) K – 2nd

 

(will grow to  PK -8th by the 2024-2025 school year)

 

Board Approves Meeting Dates For 2018

The board voted to approve the schedule for board committee and board business meetings for the remainder of 2018. The schedule has been posted at www.opsb.us
