Board Meeting Preview

July 17, 2018

The July board meetings will be held this week at the Orleans Parish School Board’s central offices at 3520 General DeGaulle Drive. See link for full agendas.

Starting at 1pm on July 17th, the accountability committee will hear updates about the fall 2018 charter request for applications (RFA) process, along with regular updates concerning school accountability and school improvement efforts. In addition, there will be a review of recent test scores and an action item approving the 2018-2019 calendar for Cypress Academy.

At 1:30pm on July 17th, the policy committee will hear an update about enrollment and transportation and consider an action item that would amend OPSB policy GBN to reflect existing law concerning the dismissal of employees.

At 2pm on July 17th, the budget and finance committee will get an update about the FY18 budget and also get more information about differentiated funding planning. There are additional action items on the committee agenda including Resolution 09-18 re: Industrial Tax Exemption Program (ITEP), a rental rate adjustment for OPSB office space, approval for Sarah T. Reed storm mitigation upgrades, and approval of Request for Proposal NO. 18-0028 concerning therapeutic services for students, and ratification of increase imaging contract.
At 2:30pm on July 17th, the property committee will receive a capital projects report and get an update about the most recent facility siting process. There are action items including adoption of a Type B facility lease for Gentilly Terrace, approval of a new sublease template and a purchase agreement for Armstrong Elementary.

At 3pm on July 17th, the legal and legislative committee will meet in executive session to discuss OPSB et al. v. The Einstein Group, Orleans Parish Civil District Court Docket No. 2017-11398 and OPSB v FEMA – EDLA Docket No. 18-254.

Finally, at 5:30pm on June 19th, the general board business meeting will begin with a report from the Superintendent with additional presentations honoring the McDonogh 35 Alumni Association, The Pontchartrain Chapter of the Links, Inc. and longtime OPSB employee Dr. Armand Devezin, who is retiring. There will also be an action item inviting bids for paper products and an executive session to consider personnel issues and approve evaluation procedures.
