U.S. Education Secretary DeVos to Honor Kathy Riedlinger

November 7, 2018

Today (Nov. 7), the U.S. Department of Education will present Kathy Riedlinger with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her long-term leadership in transforming local public schooling.

We are very thankful for her commitment to educating our students, leading a school of excellence, and most importantly for always setting the bar high.

Riedlinger is the only school leader being given the Bell Lifetime Achievement Award, a designation given by her peers at the national and local level. Riedlinger, who became Principal at Lusher Charter School  in 1981, now directs the largest charter school in Orleans Parish, serving more than 1800 students in grades K-12 at two campuses in Uptown New Orleans. Riedlinger is the longest continually serving Principal currently employed in a public school in Orleans Parish.

The public can watch the ceremony in Washington D.C. where Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. will also be in attendance.
